A WOMAN has been hit and killed by a semi-trailer while trying to cross one of Melbourne's busiest freeways.
The woman was crossing the Tullamarine Freeway, the main arterial to and from Melbourne's international airport, when she was struck.
Another female and a dog who were with the woman at the time were not injured, Victoria Police said.
The women were in front of the Essendon Fields industrial and retail complex group when they attempted to cross about 1.30pm (AEST), police said.
The truck driver is assisting police with their inquiries.
